A Revolution in Publishing!

The Internet explosion has brought about a revolution in the way things get published.  The web offers creative talent a new medium which we believe far surpasses traditional media's capabilities.  In response, authors need to expand their concept of what it means to create a work.

In the past articles, novels, short stories, etc. all had to conform to a fixed format to fit into a traditional publication.  Thanks to the Internet, all these limitations and restrictions are void!  Writers are now free to experiment with new forms and do things unheard of just a few years ago.  A good example is the ability to add hyper links to other works, web sites, glossaries, character outlines, references, etc.  This adds value to the work and can result in a much bigger audience, especially as others link to your work!

The process of writing and editing has improved greatly thanks to computer word processing.  Advanced layout programs like Pagemaker and Quark make traditional publishing a snap.  Now the Internet can make all this even easier, allowing authors and editors to work on a project in real time.  No more delays waiting for snail mail back and forth.

Even the very idea of a work as a static finished product may soon be obsolete.  New technology allows a great deal of interactivity enabling the creator and the consumer to communicate directly.  For instance a literary work can now include commentary or criticism and other non-fiction works can be constantly updated with timely information rather than waiting for a new edition.

Popular Vertical Portal and associate Web sites to promote and market new works whether electronic or traditional.

Sales and Distribution setup using E-Commerce for the Internet or traditional book distribution to put your work in the stores.

Our bias is towards New Talent.  We want to give new writers a chance to be discovered. The Hip Publishing Program is Low Risk enabling us to take a chance with works and authors others publishers won't touch.  Our unique Feedback Loop (see below) will help us determine which works will succeed and provide suggestions for improvement before a piece is put on the market.

How it works.

Our Electronic Publishing Portal promotes both new and known talent.  All writers wishing to publish their work for sale need to sign our Electronic Publishing Contract.  Works are published on our site and can be viewed or downloaded in various non-proprietary formats.

Works with potential are offered for sale at reasonable prices (less than $10) via a secure server that takes credit cards.

Readers can sample part of a work before buying.  This will either hook them into buying the rest of the work, or save them from paying for something they won't like.  That makes them happy!

For new works, we allow readers who are willing to review the work to read it in its entirety for free.  In return they must fill out a survey rating the work.  The results are used to help promote the work.

We keep stats on the the works and post the top ten on the site, further helping to promote the more successful works.  If a work is very successful and generates sufficient sales, we will offer the author a standard contract to publish the book in hard copy, to be distributed by our book distribution associates.

Short works may be combined with works of a similar nature and published in Anthology form.

Contracts:  All authors submitting their work for sale via Hip Inc. must sign our Electronic Publishing contract.  This contract is non-exclusive, allowing authors to market their work to other entities without restriction!

The Keys to Success
We believe the keys to successfully promoting a work in the new paradigm are these factors.

Multiple Formats:  Availability of a work in whichever format a user requires/desires including traditional hard copy.

Feedback Loop:  Knowing the readers reactions to a work at the preliminary stage of promotion can determine its future value, how to best target the market and how much resources to allocate for its promotion.

Multiple Channels:  We believe a good work should be promoted in every way.  We can provide a number of ways to sell a work, via existing web publishing sites, via Vertical Web Portals with targeted markets, via Web Advertising, and hard copy distribution.

Non Exclusivity:  We firmly believe that authors should control their works throughout the publishing process.  To this end our Electronic Publishing Contract is non-exclusive, allowing authors to continue to promote their work via other channels.

Try Before Buying:  We feel it's very important that your readers get a chance to sample your work before they commit to buying it.  This raises the satifaction level and people are more likely to return to our site to sample more.
