Yes, I would like to:
A. Describe my life in detail for the rest of the world to laugh at.
B. Tell everyone some amusing anecdote about when I was a hippy, long, long ago.
C. Become a hippy when I grow up.
No, I would prefer to:
A. Live in denial.
B. Join the NRA and the Moral Majority
C. Take another hit while I think about it.

The following are profiles of actual hippies. Their brains have been changed to permit further expansion. We at Hippyland can neither confirm nor deny the validity of their stories. We leave it to you, the reader, to take what is written with a gram of whatever substance is handy. We thank those who have so bravely contributed to this page.

hey everyone.. :> All my friends and such call me 'Kaeiri', but it's not
my real name. Its a beautiful name a close guy friend of mine gave me
several years back. he said it was "beautiful, exotic, and mysterious,
like you." I took it as a great compliment and it just ended up
sticking. :> I haven't found out if it really means anything in another
language, someone once mentioned it was Hawaiian.

That would be pretty cool, Hawaii is gorgeous!

anyhow, I consider my self a hippie.. my mom was into the scene in the
60s, she lived near the Haight up on Twin Peaks in S.f. and she saw
Janis at Winterland in 68. I recently picked up the "Janis Joplin with
Big Brother and the Holding Co. -- Live at Winterland '68" new live
recording release and she mentioned "hey! I was there for that!". That
was pretty cosmic.. she was at a concert I feel like Im at when I listen
to the album..

I also love Hendrix, Santana, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, THE GRATEFUL DEAD
!!! ( smile), Jefferson Airplane, Creedence, Dylan, etc. The music of
the 1960s is so fantastic and orgasmic and interflowing that I just fell
in love from the very first note I heard (i think it was the jefferson
airplanes' "White rabbitt ")..

Im 17 years old and live in San francisco, California. Best city in the
world! !! I love Amsterdam, Paris, Prague, etc in Europe but SF is
definitly one of the greatest cities. It has everything, North Beach was
the Beat Generation, the Haight-ashbury -- hippies, the 60s,
psychedelia, the Fillmore, downtown, etc. Absolutely perfect. :>

I pretty much figured I was officially (if there even is such a thing as
"becoming a hippie"), a hippie when my friends and family all started
telling me "Why do you listen to the Dead, they're from the 60s," "Are
those birkenstocks on your feet??", and "Its the 90s, not the 60s
anymore!". It was mentioned with lightheartedness and humor, but I
realized this was where I belonged. The mindset and ideals of the hippie
generation are what I beleive in.

Peace, love and happiness!! Sex drugs and rock n roll!! .. stop the wars
and fighting and killing, love the earth and treat it like your friend.
take care of our land and eachother.

I basically beleive in everything of those days. I wish SO MUCH that I
could have lived it, but I didn't so we have to appreciate what we have
now, us newer hippies. I love the fashion, social lifestyles, and
political/revolutionary beleifs.

so thats me, hope its a good enough description :>

Peace and spread love, keep the tradition alive,
Kaeiri
*HUGS* TO EVERYONE!!!
:D

hay i'm kala and i live in dothan alabama, there aren't very many hippies
i know only a couple so if you are a hippie and live in alabama email me
at ritaf17@aol.com.

i am only 12 yrs old but i know in my heart that i'm a true hippie.i
know your probaly saying"naw man she's too young to be a hippie whta
does she know bout dat kinda stuff!" believe me you'd be surprised.
that's the kind of reaction i got from my friends.they were like"kala
you are such a freak, your room is creeping me out" well i would rather
be a freak to my friends than to give up being a hippie. but i think its
impossible to quit being a hippie b/c deep inside you'll always believe
in peave love and harmony. once a hippie always a hippie!!!!!

Hey there everyone!!
Well, I have been told by everyone I know that I am a hippy. I am a young
one though. I was born in the 80's unfortunately, because I should have
been born in the 50's to be around for all the fun!!
I am in 2 bands: one is of all boys my age who play punk and hard rock, and
the other is of all their hippy dads who play a lot of laid back music from
the 60's and 70's.
I am the drummer in both bands. I also play the classical piano. I strongly
believe that music can heal your soul. It eases pain and brings one into a
new dimension of ecstasy and freedom. It is one sure way to escape from the
world and it's problems.
But, have you ever noticed how awesome this world is? All of its colors and
creations?
There is no racism in nature, nor any segregation. Everything just lives
where it's happiest.
Sometimes I wish that we as humans could reach this level of acceptance.
Most of us do, as hippys. Thats why I am one I guess...
I do dress a little differently, but not to make a statement, just because,
hey! I'm more comfortable that way. My wardrobe consists of a few nice
outfits for church , flaring dresses and the rest soft old T-shirts from
pawn shops and such. All of my pants are at least 3 sizes too big and way
to old according to my peers. (but ya know how ya just can't let go of old
clothes....)I also wear too many rings and necklaces according to my
parents!
My new years resolution is to toke up with my dad. He and the rest of the
older band do that stuff, and don't think I know about it! he he he...
My dad is awesome! He is the bassist in the band and will forever be a
hippy! (and my mom wonders where I got it!)
Well, My favorite bands are Led Zeppelin and Phish, String Cheese Incident,
Alanis Morresette, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills Nash and Young,
Dylan and Pink Floyd.
Well, what more can I say than that I love people, love to party and love
this page!!
I live in New Orleans and am 16.
Peace everyone! Keep hippydom alive!!!
Love, Millsy

I am a 21 year old male from Hendersonville,Tennessee. I am writing first of all because this page is the greatest thing I've seen in a while. Secondly, because i would like to tell my story. I have been amazed at the love and affection shown by people of this community for a while now. I have been surounded by people of the "hippy" lifestyle for many years and I am always amazed when i see the bond between other people like myself. You know what I'm talking about......like u can walk up to someone and sense they r a "hippy". It could be many things like the way we dress or talk. But whatever it is i think my higher power for it. Because there is nothing like meeting another "one" of us. I have visited the farm a time or two and love the atmosphere there. Well i'm not going to take up a lot more space, so if u would like e-mail me and i will continue my story. If u are ever traveling and pass by hendersonville give me a buzz. Peace Love And Happiness To All aj ......................................e-mail:clyell@bellsouth.net

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,
All I wanna say is, get the hell off the computer and DO something with your
life!! I love this page, but it seems that some of you spend every waking
moment here!! What I mean is, like, go out and make a difference. Do
volunteer work for your local animal shelter or soup kitchen. Help the less
fortunate. Read, make music, smoke pot, just do SOMETHING!!! Write, draw,
dance, sing! Write to your congressman about an issue that is of concern to
you. Read the newspaper, read High Times, read WIRED or anything that will
keep you up on world issues. Start petitions, plan marches. Just be active.
Wearing bell bottoms and tie dyes doesnt make you a hippie. Listening to the
Dead doesnt make you a hippie. It's what you do. Its also a state of mind.
A 13 year old can do alot in this world if they try. So just try. Quit
bragging about your phatty patch work clothing. Do something. Much love.

My name is Elizabeth (Daydream), I'm 18 and I live in the suburbs of northern
Virginia. My parents are hippies, and they raised me to believe in the hippie
ways. I love my parents, we get along really well, unlike most of my friends
do with their parents. My friends always say I'm really lucky to have such
cool, understanding parents. I love the outdoors, I have all my life. My two
favorite things to do are camping and hiking, whether with my friends or with
my family or even by myself. I also love music, traveling, and spending time
with my friends. It's hard living in Northern Virginia because of all the hate
around here. The people are terrible, they are so prejudice. They think you
can only live in peace if you are the typical rich white American family who
acts incredibly snobby. But it doesn't matter, because hopefully soon I'll be
going to school in Boulder. For those of you who live around the DC area, I'd
advise you to go to Wilmer's park for a weekend once it gets warm outside.
They have the best birthday celebration for Jerry Garcia, and the best hippie
parties around DC. It's in Brandywine, Maryland, and definetely worth
visiting. A very kind place. Anyways, for all you hippies, keep on living life
to it's fullest, I know I will. Peace ~~~~DAYDREAM~~~~ E-mail me if you'd

Why Me? Why am I like this? Why... because I choose to be. I am hippie,
I am not like other 15 year olds. I believe in free will... I choose to
be different from other kids my age. I wish not to be a trend-follower,
but an individualist. I love nature... its our best blessing yet we are
ripping it away as if it were a stop-sign on our way to what we think is
"the promised land". Why?... I ask that question every day. People out
there are being murder... over what? Is there anything worth dying for?
I think not. I am different from all I know... I am hippie. I listen to
"that weird music from the 60's that went out of style decades ago".
Jimi Hendrix... Pink Floyd... The Dead... Jefferson Airplane... The
Doors... Janis Joplin... Cream... I smoke marijuana, if that is a sin,
so be it. I take acid... another sin? so be it. The world is today is
more corrupt than ever, and I hate to see it fall down like it is. I
believe in anti-racism, appreciation for nature, peace, and dreams...
and those who dare to dream... like myself. I wish to carry on the
dreams created by the other dreamers 30 years ago, Jerry... John...
Jimi...

Peace to you my new friend

hello everyone. i've always wanted to be a hippy and i never realised that i am one.
I'm a vegetarian, i play guitar and i'm dreading my hair soon cos ireckon it would suit me. i'm in to all the other hippy things too. but all i wanted to say was flower
power, peace, freedom, happiness and rock on to all the hippies out there in the
world.
lots of love from sarah in new zealand

yea well.. i think it's about time for me to write something
here. even though it does not have pretty much importance, except
maybe that i can at last really admit that i consider myself a
hippie. no, don't get me wrong here, i don't mind being called
hippie nor do care being one. but, i haven't been able to distinquish
the "hippiedom" in me, until recently :-)

i may be sounding incoherent now, but hey, that's just me! and
this is the Thing_That_Makes_You_Hippie(tm), being yourself. Ok,
there are lots of people that are themselves, but don't call (well,
YOU cannot call yourself anything) themselves as hippies. there are
other factors too, besides being yourself (but that is the most
important!)

my transformation to hippie has been a long process, which might
have begun when i was born in 1980, but only recently, let's say
in last year, it was completed at least at some point (i will be
evolving through my whole life) i went through some VERY depressing
happenings and the long, cold finnish winter didn't help much. i
fell in love you know, it can lift a man in heavens.. or it can
devastate ones mind. okay, i was a bastard. well, i left my hometown
for awhile (moved to our capital, Helsinki) and tried to reconstruct
my head. and hey! it worked :-)

i have always said that you cannot yourself define what you are
just by saying something. it has to come from other people. i have
been called "hippie" since something, both in insulting and
complimenting (is that a word? hope so) manner. and yes, i have some
information about myself now, so i give myself the liberty to call
myself a hippie. thank me, couldn't do better!

oh well, i listen pink floyd, uriah heep, the doors etc. but also
sisters of mercy, rammstein, future sound of london.. even punk.
i have bell bottoms and other Assorted_Hippie_Gear(tm) and i do
believe in karma, in some way.. it is too long to be described, but me
and my friend call it "The Cosmic Consciousness". it actually manages
to explain the universe in logical way, even through glasses of
science! not many beliefs (it is NOT a religion, it is not based on
any religion, it just explains everyone of them and also the universe)
can do that, can they.. maybe we have missed some point, 'cause
at this point we should be somehow enlightened and carried away
from this world to a better one ;-)

and i smoke pot, which may not come as surprise after that cosmic
thing ;-) have you people ever noticed how agressive and loud are
those who are drunk? yes, of course you have! have you ever paid
attention to those who have been smoking grass? so warm and open,
calm and.. well you get the point. but hemp is the only drug i use,
won't touch anything else (well, beer sometimes)

geez, i do have all the typical quirks of a typical hippie. so what,
it may be just a coincidence! most important thing is that you
like what you are and what you do, that keeps you smiling. Even though
it's the darkest season here now.. but it will change too, can't wait
for the midnight sun on finnish summer!

if you will, write me: lehtonen@mailexcite.com
maybe i reply, maybe i won't. i'm very busy y'know.

cheers. see you in million years!

hi, my name is Keith, and I am a 16/m hippie from PA. I am a vegetarian.
singer, songwriter, guitarist, poet, photographer, etc. I spend my days
thinking of my soul mate Lisa Livingstone and being a hippie. Someday I
will travel and probably live on a commune. I would love to make life long
friends whom I can meet and eventually go on road trips with or live on the
commune. I love everything good, and dislike anything bad, that's all. I
love everyone in the world and would love to be your friend. You can write
me snail mail if you ask for my address and you can e-mail me at
Keith_Hitchens@hotmail.com

I love you all,

Keith

My best friend Duckie has given me the title of hippie, so I guess I can
leave my profile here. i'm seventeen and I would give anything to be
able to go back in time and go to Woodstock. I want to travel in a VW
van and meet as many hippies as possible. I have and will never do
drugs. The only thing I need to expand my mind is other people, and my
Doors CDs. By the way I love Jim Morrison. LETS ALL LOVE EACH
OTHER. HATE IS A NECESSARY EMOTION, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT HAS TO
RULE OUR WORLD!

Hey,

I guess I am what some would call a "hippy" mostly I am rejected in this
small Ohio town, but I am not discouraged. Cause Reading these I realize that
there are others out there who may actually care, and make a change. I love
nature and all that and do my best to love my fellow man, (even if they throw
meat at me cause I don't prefer to inculde it in my diet.) I like doors and
Dylan and the dead and all that for years I denied being a hippy but every
time that I found something very cool I discovered It was a "hippy" thing. I
would like to hear from all you out there advice and guidence would be nice
Other than music I have very little help in feeling complete. I soon though
will be out in Oregon which I think Will help

think of 5 plants that make you smile today

Hello friends!
I am a sophomore in high school in South Carolina and have been a hippy chick
all of my life... my parents brought me up that way, I suppose. I have always
been unique and lots of people tease me for it, but to me, being truthful
about who you are is the most important thing at any time. I have had a
difficult time, but I am so glad that I have stuck with it. I am against war,
conflict, and establishment; I am also a vegetarian. Although that has
nothing to do with being a hippie (being a hippie is about what is on the
inside... being spiritual), it is a large part of my personality since I am
active in peace rallies, etc. I do have something that I want to ask all of
you other hippies that "move to the beat of a different drummer," as my
teacher once put it, in life. Do you ever have people who try to change who
you are and mock you, fuss at you, etc. for it? Normally, it doesn't matter
to me what other people think, but it is getting to be all the time, every
day. I try to explain my views and how I feel, but it doesn't work. Do you
have any advice? As for everyone else, ALWAYS stay true to your inner spirit
and do what YOU think is right! Peace to you all, -Becca

Hello Brothers and Sisters.  My name is Krissy and I'm 18 yrs old.  I'm from
the suburbs of Chicago.  I've been known by everyone as the hippy chick since
junior high.  I love peace and peaceful people.  I've been a vegetarian since
7th grade and everyone at my christian gradeschool gave me a hard time for
being different.  The boys use to chuck meat at me and mooo.  But I'm glad I
stuck with it.  And I'll always be as different as I want, because its more
fun that way.  I wore the same tie dye shirt every day to school and now my
parents have banned me from wearing it.  Oh well!:]  I'm an Art student. And
there is nothing I enjoy more than art.  I love the Rainbow Family and I've
been trying to get to a gathering.  Please e-mail me I would love to hear from
you.  PEACE

use i just kind of get sick of reading every profile and having start
out i am a hippy or some shit like that of course you are why else would
you be writing the freaking profile i don't want to see the greatest way
of life go wrong i'm not saying i'm more of a hippy or less i'm just
saying i hope every one can dig you can write me at
jpreston67@hotmail.com if you want to explain a view or something i hope
at least one person reads this and takes it to their thinker i love
everyone jared preston volz 15 god damn well i declare have you seen the
like their walls are built of cannonballs their motto is don't tread on

Hey all,
This kinda stuff is fun. Isn't it amusing how so many people enjoy describing (and glorifying, and I don't mean that as derogatory) themselves? I think it's kinda neat.
My viewpoint on "hippie":This seems interesting to me. I am beginning to loathe the word "hippie", a word that was tagged on to a glorious generation and many people who never forgot what they stood for -- unfortunately, I believe there are so many young people today who would call themselves "hippies" and they *don't* know what it stands for. *However*, such is life, what's in a name, correct? Maybe. Enough babbling. (another one of my traits).
Yes, I have been called a hippie. I grew up in a **very** conservative area and as a young, innocent child was asked, "Are your parents hippies??" by other young, innocent children. I didn't understand what that was. I grew up (and am *still* growing up) in an area where, when all my peers were at church on Sunday morning, I was waking up to the sounds of ol' Bobby Zimmerman blaring out of the stereo (*MY* preacher...),dad accompanying him with his good 'ol acoustic. My favorite memories. Later, in my naivete, I embraced my conservative peers' lifestyles and shunned (as every adolescent is wont to do)(after being made fun of too much in the third grade for "wearing weird t-shirts..." [grateful dead]) the lifestyle in which I was brought up. Oh, 'I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.' I lived in this myopia of adolescence for about five years (whew... glad that's over...aren't we all...:)), when suddenly I was awakened by the ever familiar voice of ol' Bobby (Dyl!
an, not Weir)(I believe at my 9th Bob concert, November 1996..).
Slowly, I grew into the person I am now: happy, healthy, homegrown. And it's cool if you're ultra conservative, but it's just obvious to some of us that that's not who we are. I found my loves: making patchy clothes (I am trying to get a little bizness started, but there are **so many** and I'm broke.),spending time in the wild ('specially in Colorado...), listening to all kindza music (*'specially Rusted Root*, ekoostik hookah, The Doors, The Dead, and my the wonderful Mr. Dylan) going to shows (i LOVE SHOWS.i'll see y'all there!), loving my friends and family(from all walks and genres of life), and LIVING. And the greatest feeling in the world is at a show, where there is an ultra good vibe going on, and I'll just look around and see all you wonderful people and realize, hey now, the world ain't so bad. If there is a hippie, it is all about the spirit we all possess inside of ourselves, letting it out of its cage, and letting it *LOVE*.
"If someone asks you what you do for a living, say you laugh for a living"
-Bob Dylan.
          "If you get confused,
         Listen to the music play"
Peace
KLC

my parents think i am totally werd coz i do what i want when i want and that
is my messege in life and i want everyone to know that they should be

luvin ya from here catchya ata seeya bye

yoooo folks
I came across this exselent page looking for information about hippies for my school report. I'm not a hippie, at least I don't think like one. I dress a little unusual, but I don't wear tie dies......My friends says that the song "I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight talker" was like written for me. I'm always in a good mood and know how to have fun. Sometimes I regret I wasn't born 20 years before, but then I say what the heck, I can have good time now too. And besides...it is known so much more chemical stuff now than then!! I'm a vegeterian for about a year now, before I only ate white meat. I listen to all kinds of rock and metal music, also punk and songs from the 60's. But still...I think I'm quite an ordinary 16 year old girl, who is just sooo intrested in hippies. So if you can give me any information about real character of a hippie or a good definition of it, please let me know.
peace!

Hi! I'm a 27 year old vegetarian, wiccan, open-minded, rebellious, Earth
mother, gypsy, weirdo...I practice herbal healing on myself and my
family, I haven't eaten anything with a face since 1990, I sell my
crafts and handmade jewelry at Renaissance faires...I feel a strong
connection with the earth and animals...
Also, when I gave birth to my son, I did so at home with midwives in a warm, calm, loving environment without any technological intervention or drugs. It was a truly magical experience. My son, by the way, has been a vegetarian since conception
(he's 18 months now) and is bigger than the average two year old and has
a huge vocabulary. I'm not sure if all this makes me a hippy, I'm not concerned with labels anyway, but I have always felt a kinship with people who lean that way.
Peace, love and magick,
Kat<

Hi,
I'm not exactly sure why I am writting this. I just stumbled on to this
page while passing the time.
I suppose I am a Hippy. I believe in the Hippy philosophy of peace, love
and happiness will better the world. I am a human rights advocate, or as
much of one as I a can be at the age of 16. I am a vegetarian and I love
all animals and people just the way they are. I have never conformed to
the ways of society, thought my dad seems to think I should. The things
that make me the happiest are playing my guitar, writting in my journal,
walking in the rain and having those amazing conversations with people
about absolutely everything even when you just met them. I fell at peace
with my life, even thought the names I get called for believing in what
I do are sometimes hard to deal with. I just think that they are missing
out.
Anways, I suppose I'll stop. Remember everyone to keep doing what you
are doing because it's great.

Love Toby
(I am female for those of you who think the name is a male's : )

I  am Jessica a 16 year old hippy I belive in peace and love and wish the world could just let us be we were born this way and if we want to express ourselves then let us cause it's not hurting anyone.  I am so sick of being told what to do and what to
wear that I don't care anymore.I do whatever I want to and no one can
stop me especially society who seems to want to mold everyone straight
from the womb into dolls. But I say if we all work together we can save
ourselves.

So I will say it loud and say it proud
Screw Authority cause they are all ass-holes anyway. If we are all going
to die why not have fun why not break rules and discover new things?

So don't sell out to the over aggresive world cause true hippies are the
best people in this messed up world

I would like to respond to a profile I read recently written by a girl
named RysGirl86 or something along those lines.  I just wanted to say
that I really dig they way you talk, and I think you got a good head on
your shoulders.  I actually share the same dream as you, travelling like
Mr. Kerouac, hitchhiking, and meeting new faces.  My only "beef" to say,
is yours with meat-eaters.  I can understand you choosing not to eat
meat, but I don't think it is terribly necessary to make such references
as knawing flesh off a bone.  Keep your beliefs, even tell people about
them, but don't preach.  Not to start an argument, and my words contain
no thorns, I'm just saying to mellow about the meat.  All right friends,
I once again will gallantly disappear into the sunset.  Please feel free
to respond to me on this very page, yes the hippyland response page!!!
Goodbye all you groovy people.
eyes like rain

I never really thought of myself as anything before.  I had my own
beliefs and clothing style.  It never occured to me that people were
calling me a "hippie".  All I can say is that I spend my life outdoors.
I always have.  Nature is my medicine.  If I've had a bad day, upset,
happy or any other mood, going outside makes every bad thing disappear
and every good thing ten times greater.  Animals are my savior.  I love
to go and sit and watch for hours the squirrels and the birds living in
such a natural place.  The music I listen to reflects nature.  Soft
acustic guitar, bongo drums, things that were made from the trees and
put you in that soothing, trance like state.  Drugs have enhanced my
perception of things.  I never noticed the wind blow so cool like until
I had E.  I felt so free minded and carefree the first time I tripped.
My parents were never hippies.  I just developed this sense of happiness
and peace from within myself.  I wish all people would be so free
spirited.  Write me if you would like to talk.  I love to talk to people
with the same values as mine.

hey, im tanelorn. I have been thinking alot lately about everything, but mostly about hippies. It seems to be that I would like to be a hippy when I am older (at least I think so), but they seem to listen to certain bands of music and like the 60's physcodelic thing alot. Well, to tell you the truth, I am not into physocdelic stuff, its nice once in a while, but for the most part I dont like it.I love nature, and peace and freedom. I hate all politics and think that we religh on technology too much. We are destroying our planet and everything on the planet, including ourselves. I am not a vegetarian because I believe that the godess made us omnivorse for a reason and that we should stay omnivorse. I believe in these things, but I also let others believe in what they want to . Am I a hippy? I dont know, you tell me. Tanelorn555@yahoo.com

Hi ! I am not exactly a hippie but, I sure would love to go back to that
era! I mean that was the coolest time of the whole world I think!! = )
I would give almost anything to go back in time. At my school during
homecaoming week we had a hippy day and the close I wore were just like the close I were everyday!
I thought it was so cool to see all the guys in polyester and stuff!!
I love anything to do with that era and I live in Orlando, Fl. so if any
one would like to chat . Email me at: Groovysilver@gurlmail.com
Thanx,
Staci

Well my life is fun for me but i have reciveced some pretty weird looks
and hey i just laughed them off and went on but.. For a 16 year old
living in a small town in ky i think i m doing pretty good. I do have
some what of a 60 attitude i love the hippies every point of it!
But the person who get's all of my attention is Janis Joplin i know
eveything about Janis Joplin she is awesome i love how she sang with all
her passion pushing her self to the very out most limit with every
peformance.. she was the best.. not only do greatly admire her i wear
bellbottoms and hemp and just the typical attire of a hippie but i don't
do it to be different i do it because that's the way i think the would
should be and that's how i feel it's how i express myself so when people
laugh i know there really more shallow than they appear for not
understanding but that's life.

Hey !               >>> i shall just go by -*=Eggman=*-   :)
i am a lonely guy closing in on 17 down here in Florida.
for about a year now, ive been slowly getting into the hippie lifestyle.
my mom died when i was 15, and things started changing. i started
listening to the Beatles, then Hendrix and the Who. I eventually got
into The Dead, Pink Floyd, and the Doors. Occasionally, i would wear a
tie dyed shirt or say "peace", but i was not a real hippie.
Then last summer, i started to believe in a lot of that peace and love
stuff. It became my world, as i immersed myself in hippie lifestyle.
This website also helped a great deal (Keep up the good work !!!).
I had the whole summer to myself to explore hippiedom.  :)
Well, i started smoking pot, and i increasingly opened my mind to the
possibilities and wonders of life. I abandoned the conformist, chained
down life i had been living. And now, i am a serious hippie. I am
veggie, and i dont really listen to ANY new bands, i think that music
has gone downhill ever since...the mid 70's. Peace, simplicity, love,
and community have become paramount in my life. I cant wait for the 30th
Anniversary of Woodstock. I will be there in that field on those magical
three days this summer  :)  (Wish i could've been there in 69 !!!)
Then after high school, i plan on finding an accepting hippie community
far away from my home now. Then i can live out the hippie life to the
fullest. Being a hippie is not about wearing bell bottoms or tie dyes.
It is a way of living, and a state of mind. I am a hippie, because my
mind is open to everything and everyone. Help the spirit the original
hippies started to carry on forever, dont let the conformist evil take
over the world !!!   stay peaceful  :)    -*=Eggman=*-

I guess after reading all your intimate hippie autobiographies I ought
to leave a bit about myself. I was born in the 70's (I'm 23) and was
since considered a hippie. I didn't really have to try, and that may
contradict some definitions of anti-war activist hippies. I am allergic
to deodorant (crystal, people!) and most other chemicals. Both my body
and mind hate them. So naturally I opt for everything as natural as
possible. Hate to shave-until society complains too much. Grew up in
Southern California and had lots of opportunity to get things natural,
herbal, etc. Never went to the doctor until recently had a baby. Did
home labor though with midwives and the whole thing. Hospitals are very
unnatural, unsafe, and unspiritual. God made us to (women) to have
babies, and we don't need them medically extracted. He's perfect by the
way, and showing a hippie soul.
Anyways, I go by Moone when I'm singing and playing my music out. I
love to tell people about how Jesus Christ was the original hippie and
peacemaker. I like most of the stereotypical things of the hippie era
including music, rags, NO SHOES, etc. I make most of my clothes-so
they're truly original and me.
To say something meaningful, and hopefully enriching, look to the
Bible for some good philosophy. Religion is out. Jesus was not
religious. He encouraged us to seek God and truth and PEACE and
happiness in the everyday of life. Whatever scripture or teaching you
find to be helpful on your journey through this life-take it with a
grain of sand and prepare your minds and hearts for your own
philosophies. God will guide you to that point of higher consciousness
that needs no drugs. I have done my share. There are many ways to
heighten consciousness, there is only one high above others. Don't
settle for anything less than amazing, passionate life and love. You are
worth it. You are beautiful.
Okay, lastly-to you young ones keep the Faith and the PEACE and bring
back the true values of the hippie soul to your generation. I hope my
son will meet lovely people like you I read about here-to share some
vivid dreams of peacefulness.
It's not fashion, or food preference, or belief and value system that
makes you a hippie. God made us hippies-our spirits and Truth will set
us free. No need to define it any further-I think/feel/exude that I am
hippie, therefore I am.
Email me if you like-would love to hear from ya.
  Moonechild@yahoo.com
God's grace and PEACE be with you to your journey's end. And
thereafter.
  Moone

I always enjoy hearing about fellow kids and their adventures and thoughts, but I think that alot of entries on this page are clearly from young people who don't know whats up, people who don't know what being a kid is really all about. You gotta travel, you gotta live the life. Get the hell off of the computer and go and fucking save headwaters, kiddies. Stop your boasting on your phatty patchwork pants, (we all have 'em, so what?) go and really make a difference. There are forests to be saved and dank to be smoked.

well hey all you happy people! i hope you are as fortunate as i am to be comfortably surrounded with a beautiful cloud of purple haze:) well i live in oklahoma, which really sucks. i'm the only true hippy that i know. there are a lot in norman, but, i don't know them, so i'm very lonely! my dream man (which i would adore) would be a hippy, with a good out look on life, a vegan, a long haired beauty( that's actually optional, because it's the ideas that make you a hippy, because being a hippy is all about not defining things), but you know long hair on men looks really good!!, and he'd just basically have to be groovy. if you guys know anyone/ or are someone that lives in the okc. metro area, please e-mail me because i need to know you exist, it seems so sad to me that shallowness and trends are taking over our earth:( but i guess i am a hippy, cuz everyone calls me one because i wear vintage clothes, and believe in living life like it's a peaceful ride, so i can break on through to the other side, not to mention i have a very good friend named Mary Jane, well if you cats are diggin anything i have to say then you can e-mail me!!!!:)  carcar23@hotmail.com  peace at all costs------carla

Our names are Laurel and Tom, we live in

My mind wanders and wonders and I get
paid for it, aint life great?
I keep my hair short, cause Laurel
thinks the Feds will shoot me.
Laurel and I have a web site where we
offend everyone with our thinking.
Laurel still has not writen anything

SO, i come in here often and read everyone else's profiles and i always laugh
at these teeny-bopper profiles of little 14 year old girls who believe they
are "hippies" because they wear bell bottoms and (GASP) may not even shave
their legs.  Well, i have news for you you little children, dressing or acting
like people did back then does not make you a "hippy"  you uneducated youth
are what I like to call "modern hippies"  you dress like them, yet might do
drugs and use the lingo, thinking that you can live like they did back then.
But doing and saying is not the same as "living" which is what I do.  I can
call myself a "hippy" not because I dress or speak like them, but because I
live like them.  I have embraced the ideas of their time, and interacted them
with my lifestyle.  I stand up for what is wrong, i use drugs as a means of
spiritual expansion, and as a way to better myself.  I make hemp necklaces in
my spare time, and a guy from a smoke shop said that he would buy them from me
and sell them in his store.  I do wear bell-bottoms, birkenstocks, tie-dye,
wear my hair in flowing braids, and do not shave my legs or bathe often.  I am
also in the process of buying a VW van, something that takes a lot of looking
to find the perfect one.  Some favorite groups/singers of mine are: Jimi
Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Police, Sting, The Beatles, Tom Petty
and the H, Dead, The Rolling Stones, and yes i am going to see them.  I was
able to score 4 tickets.  Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Guess Who, the
Byrds, the who, and the list can go on forever.  One of my favorite movies is
HAIR.  My sign is a leo.  If i haven't mentioned yet, i am female.  I write
poetry, stories, paint, and make pots, but only when i am in a drug induced
state of mind.  One of my favorite books is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,
something that I have read multiple times, and am actually right now reading
again.  I think that drugs should be legalized, and that all violence and war
should be put to an end.  I am studying to become an English teacher, but
would much rather travel the world helping the needy.  I take in stray animals
constantly, and always give food to the poor.  Well, that's all i have to say.

I WILL BE WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU.  AND WHOEVER IS GOING TO THE STONES, I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE

Hi. My namae is Grace. I am 15 and a hippie in my own way. I have tie-dyes, but I don't wear them all the time and the only pair of jeans I wear used to be men's bell bottoms. although they don't look very belled anymore, beacuse I am short and had to cut off about 8 inches. But my clothes aren't what make me a hippie (although the rest of the world thinks so). I don't do drugs, but I really have no problem with them or the people who do them. It's all a part of freedom, which is one of my favorite ideas. when it comes to religion, I made my own, so I am kind of a Buddhist/Wiccan kind of thing. I am not a hippie because of my clothes, hair (it's short, although I generally don't shave). I am a hippie because I believe in peace, love freedom, and life. I am one of the only two hippies in my school, the other is my boyfriend. This has a lot to do with the fact that we live in a small town in the Bible belt (Texas). I am an outcasst of the outcasts, which I find to be funny. I get a lot of flak from people, but that's ok, I'm kind of used to it, since I've been "weird" all my life. I think a lot and I dont' act or dress like most of the people I know. Well, I should go now, this is way to long amd I am rambling. Peace, Grace- Starshine_23@hotmail.com

Let me start out with saying that being a hippy is not a way you dress and
it is not how you talk or what music you listen two it is not who you hang out
with and it is not your hobbies or the things you smoke. It could be described
as a mental state but that would still be lacking . Being a hippy is a way of
life a system of values on how you live and a love for everything. and i do
not know why you people pride your selvsd so on being "hippies" I believe some
wise dude once said and i quote this wise dude. "when you label me you negate
me " But alas there are those out there who think they are hippies and revel
in it because they have some bell bottoms and get high. But now let me talk
about myself. I am 15 years old and live in a kansan suburbia republican
conservitave pit of a town outside of Kansas city. I love the outside and
going wild i play music and unicycle while juggling torches to entertain the
motals. I love ice cream and am in tenth grade. I plan to live in San
fransicico when i grow up and substitute teach to survive in this here slave
wage society. I cant stand mean people or people that think they are cool and
have an atitude.
that is all i can think of for now
