The group was first headlined by ex <strong>Electra-Fires \/ Soul Rockers<\/strong> singer <strong>Sky Saxon<\/strong> who recorded during the pre-<strong>Beatle<\/strong> days under the name <strong>Richie Marsh.<\/strong> <strong>The Seeds<\/strong> formed in 1964 when keyboardist <strong>Daryl Hooper<\/strong> and drummer <strong>Rick Andridge<\/strong> from the <strong>Four Sharps<\/strong> in Michigan moved to California replying to an add by <strong>Sky Saxon<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>Saxon <\/strong>had already recruited a hot surf guitarist called <strong>Jan Savage<\/strong> from <strong>Jack &amp; The Rippers <\/strong>and rhythm guitarist <strong>Jeremy Levine<\/strong>&nbsp;to complete the quintet, <strong>The Seeds<\/strong> officially formed in 1965 whose \u2018debut performance was supporting an early formation of&nbsp;<strong>The Doors<\/strong> at the \u2018Turkey Joint West\u2019. <em>The groups debut &#8220;Can&#8217;t Seem to Make You Mine&#8221; was a regional Californian hit in 1965 (years later \u2018Axe Bullet\u2019 underarm TV jingle) The Seeds \u2019only national # 40 hit &nbsp;in 1966, &nbsp;the angst &#8220;Pushin&#8217; Too Hard&#8221; characterised Hooper\u2019s \u2018Wurlitzer\u2019 sound while live sessions had Hooper also utilizing keyboard bass like latter day Ray Manzerak of the Doors.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>During album sessions although <strong>Sky<\/strong> is credited for bass it was actually <strong>Harvey<\/strong><strong> Sharpe<\/strong> from <strong>The Beau Jives<\/strong> that stood in. <strong>The Seeds<\/strong> were rampant and highly toxic with their scorching \u201cEvil Hoodoo\u201d and <strong>Hooper\u2019<\/strong>s fab \u201cTripmaker\u201d, all sensational alien encounters. <strong>The Seeds<\/strong> also appeared live in the soundtrack <em>Psyche Out<\/em> performing &#8220;Two Fingers Pointing to You&#8221; with actor <strong>Jack Nicholson <\/strong>on guitar alongside music by <strong>Strawberry Alarm Clock<\/strong>. The follow up single after the <em>Psyche Out<\/em> soundtrack was the trippy \u201cThe Wind Blows through Your Hair\u201d. <strong>The Seeds<\/strong> also had a guest appearance on the sitcom <em>The Mothers-In-Law<\/em> and featured on the soundtrack- <em>Riding the Bullet<\/em>. Controversy arose when their <strong>single<\/strong> \u201cMr Farmer\u201d, first song about marijuana was regionally banned, years later appearing in the soundtrack <em>Almost Famous<\/em>. <strong>Levine<\/strong>&nbsp;was the first to leave&nbsp;replacing <strong>Lee Freeman<\/strong> in <strong>Strawberry Alarm Clock<\/strong> in 1968. while&nbsp;<strong>Andridge <\/strong>was then replaced by ex <strong>Eliminators\/ Glass<\/strong> drummer <strong>Carl Belknap<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 1966 self titled debut and <em>A Web of Sounds<\/em> were riffing fearless boosted by &#8220;Mr. Farmer&#8221;, and a re-release of &#8220;Can&#8217;t Seem to Make You Mine&#8221; (1967) and &#8220;A Thousand Shadows&#8221; (1968). Notably slide guitarist <strong>Cooker John<\/strong> (aka Norman Desrosiers) from <strong>The Downchildren<\/strong>, later <strong>The Rain<\/strong> is credited on the sleeve to <em>Web of Sound<\/em> .The latter 1967 <em>Future <\/em>was largely a psychedelic conceptual album reeling through \u201cTravel with Your Mind\u201d and March of the Flower Children\u201dwhile <em>A Full Spoon of Seedy Blues<\/em> had liner notes by <strong>Muddy Waters<\/strong>. In 1968 <strong>The Seeds <\/strong>launched their <em>Raw and Alive<\/em> covering the classic songs in a mean fashion plus a sassy new number called \u201cSatisfy You\u201d. By 1969 the band was renamed <strong>Sky Saxon &amp; the Seeds<\/strong> with ex <strong>Yellow Payges<\/strong> guitarist <strong>Bob Norsoph<\/strong> &amp; ex <strong>Good Guys<\/strong> drummer <strong>Don Boomer <\/strong>(later with<strong> Point Of Doom)<\/strong> replacing <strong>Savage &amp; Andridge<\/strong>. Yet strangely the last <strong>Seeds<\/strong> 45 released by \u2018GNP Crescendo\u2019 was the <strong>Kim Fowley<\/strong>-produced \u201cFalling off the Edge\u201d \/ \u201cWild Blood\u201d from Feb 1969. <strong>The Seeds<\/strong> disbanded in the early \u201870s and <strong>Saxon <\/strong>joined a Californian religious group, \u2018The Source Family\u2019 and often played with their band <strong>Ya Ho WA 13. &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regarded as one of the earliest punk bands The Seeds were a prolific Los Angeles band during the rise of Psychedelia.
